We sat down with LLA Therapy Occupational Therapist Carey Minard to ask her about her career as an OT for Occupational Therapy Month.
- What do you like most
about being an OT?
I can work in a variety of settings with people of all ages
to help them do the things they want and need to do more independently. There
is something very special about helping someone succeed in performing a skill
they never thought they would. My job is to help them succeed, however we can.
- What is an OT topic
you are passionate about and why?
My passion is helping students with AD/HD. I think it is
still a widely misunderstood condition and I like to see these
students/children get the support they need to be successful.
- What are some
activities you would recommend for a child to practice at home?
Children need to experience play…real play; running,
jumping, swinging, spinning, throwing/catching, kicking (a ball of course),
bike riding, etc. Many children are not experiencing traditional play anymore.
It is so beneficial to develop motor skills, strength, social skills,
problem-solving, and overall fitness.
- What are ways you
make therapy fun for your clients?
Since I work primarily with kids, much of the interventions
are play related. Finding what motivates a person and incorporating it into
treatment sessions is always more fun!
We provide OT in all three office locations. Call us today to schedule an appointment!
