School is right around the corner, and with that comes new
schedules, new friends, and new tests! Studying for tests can be a very
stressful event for students and their parents alike. Here are some ways to
take some of the edge off studying for tests this school year!
Find out which way your child learns best
Everyone has their strengths when it comes to learning. Some of us are auditory learners, some are kinesthetic learners, and some are visual learners.
Stretch it out
Work a few minutes every day when a test is coming up. Studies show learning a small chunk of information can be sustained better over time, in comparison to cramming the night before.
Visualize
Making up a silly story to remember a large chunk of information can help children visualize the material, which has been shown to stick better than repetition alone. For example, I had to memorize all of the vitamins functions as a child, and I pictured Vitamin C in an airplane fighting diseases on the ground since Vitamin C helps your immune system (Thanks, Mom!).
Write it out
Writing the information down several times can help store information more easily!
Teach someone else—instructing a parent, sibling, or friend can help your child have a better handle on the information.
Read the information out loud
This can help with both auditory and visual learners.
