For the last twenty years, Toys R Us has generated a yearly toy guide for differently-abled kids! This guide offers insight on specific toys’ qualities including safety features, what skills the toy focuses on, and what age group it is intended for.
How to Choose a Toy
Using a series of ten symbols, the guide clearly labels what skills the toys may help with (including auditory skills, creativity, gross and fine motor skills, language skills, self esteem, social skills, tactile input, thinking skills, and visual skills. The guide is generated with input from the National Lekotek Center, which evaluates every toy in the guide. This guide can help parents to make great toy choices efficiently, insuring a happy, relaxed holiday for the whole family.
What Else Can I Do?
The website allows you to specifically search for toys based on the skills you want to focus on. They also provide tips for buying toys and tips on how to keep play time safe for your child!
