LLA Therapy intern, Kelly Dugan, shares some creative ideas for some fall crafting fun.
Handprints
Trace each family members' hand on scrapbook paper or make
handprints with paint. Layer the handprints with the largest hand in the back
and smallest on top on paper, canvas or even a pumpkin. Add a frame or some
wording to create extra flair for your creation!

Give Thanks Jar
Decorate a mason jar, empty coffee
can, or other container. Decide on a spot in the house to keep your jar with
little pieces of paper for family members and visitors to write about who, why or what they are thankful
for. A great time to read your thankfulness jar is during your Thanksgiving festivities or at a
family meal.

Thumbprint Tree
Pick a word that you would like to
focus on with your family or a word that already has meaning to your home. Talk
to your children about the meaning of it. To craft this: Print or write your “word” and a tree on a sheet of paper, poster or canvas. Let each
family member pick a color of paint to make thumbprints with. Take turns making
“thumbprint leaves”. Let dry and hang your new
masterpiece!

Scavenger Hunt Placemats
For this craft you will need a roll
of clear contact paper and fall foliage. Take a walk, go to a park or play
outside to hunt down fall flowers and leaves. Turn your time outside into a scavenger
hunt to find specific items.
To craft this: Cut the contact paper into your desired
shape of placemat. They could be round, oval, square, your options are endless
so let your children use their imagination! You will need 2 pieces per
placement. Take the backing off one piece of contact paper, arrange your fall
items and then place the second piece of contact paper on top. The sticky sides
of each piece of contact paper should be together. When you are finished trim
around the edges. Don’t
forget to display your fall leaf placemats on your Thanksgiving table! The kids
will feel proud to contribute to the day!

Ghost Bowling
Make use of old water bottles and recycle them
into a fun bowling set for the family. Fill the plastic water bottles with
cotton and draw or paste eyes onto the ghosts. You can turn them into monsters
and goblins by adding yarn for hair or googley eyes. Use a ball for indoor play
or take the game outside and use mini pumpkins as your bowling balls.
