4 Amazing Resources to Make This School Year the Best one YET!

Whether it’s your first year at school or the kickoff of a new year, here is a list of 4 amazing resources to make the 2017-2018 school year the best one YET!

1. Write a Social Story

Check out this great social story template I found for the first day back to school. It is available in PowerPoint to edit with ease or a PDF if you’re ready to share. Find it here

With the social story you will put your child at ease knowing what to expect for a day. Highlight different activities or parts of their day, and tell them people they might see at school. Help  them understand what they need to do before school & after to be successful. Encourage them with the exciting new things they’ll learn!

2. It is just as important for the parent to be prepared

Here is an article from PBS that talks about how parents can get ready for school. Read it for yourself, here

Make sure you take advantage of meet the teacher night and tour the school. Connect with your friends and know the tools at your disposal. It is also important to communicate with your child. Things to try are practicing transition and school routines and talking about daily events.

3. Make sure grade and age level speech is in order

There is piles of research pointing to the correlation of speech and language skills and learning and social abilities. Are you concerned about your child’s speech skills? ASHA gives several important guidelines as to when to seek out professional help here

4. Build Your Skills
